Hauptwerks <em>Die Notizen<\/em> durch Tess Lewis und einem prominenten Geleitwort des literarischen Shootingstars Joshua Cohen, dessen Roman <em>Witz<\/em> aus dem Jahr 2010 eben auf Deutsch erschienen ist, \u00fcbertragen von Ulrich Blumenbach.<br><br>\nCohen wie auch Lewis betonen die G\u00fcltigkeit von Hohls Sentenzen auch in heutiger Zeit. Es war dabei ein kluger Entscheid, aus den 1000 Seiten des deutschen Originals eine Auswahl von knapp der H\u00e4lfte zu treffen: das erleichtert (nicht nur der englischen) Leserschaft den Einstieg in das auf den ersten Blick un\u00fcberschaubare, labyrinthische Textmassiv.\nIn ihrem luziden Vorwort weist die \u00dcbersetzerin auf Herausforderungen mit Hohls Diktion und Syntax hin, beweist dabei aber ein klares Sensorium selbst f\u00fcr typographische Eigenheiten und Hohls Vorliebe f\u00fcr den geh\u00e4uften Einsatz von Satzzeichen wie dem Gedankenstrich, dem sie \u00aban active, even muscular role, in Hohl\u2019s text\u00bb zuspricht.\nAllerdings lassen sich die mitunter komplexen Satzkonstruktionen nicht 1:1 in die Zielsprache \u00fcbertragen, weshalb die \u00dcbersetzerin zurecht darum bem\u00fcht ist, die S\u00e4tze \u00absmoother\u00bb zu gestalten \u2013 was dem Notizenschreiber nicht schlecht ansteht.
